Unlike rats and mice and other pests like nuisance birds, ants aren’t known to carry diseases. They do however forage around in the undergrowth so you don’t really want them crawling across your worktops. It’s not nice finding them in your food cupboards, especially when you don’t where they have been.
Essentially, these nuisance insects are always looking for food so they will head for the food sources. They will follow chemical trails they have established and cluster around the source of food. You can usually spot the source and seal off the area to stop other ants from coming in.
If the initial hunters find food they will usually travel back to the colony to let them know. Before you know it, many more of the colony will find their way into your home.
