The leaves are starting to turn brown, the weather is turning a bit colder, winter is coming but so are the Plymouth and Cornwall rats! It’s about to get cold and for many creatures they don’t relish the thought of being outside and they will head for shelter. Unfortunately for rats this often means that they will head inside to the warmth and comfort of our homes.
Inspect the outside of the property
Now that the weather has turned colder your thoughts may be turning to keeping your house warm. Before you reach for the heating thermostat make sure your all windows, doors and any other gaps are sealed. Not only will this help to keep your house nice and warm, it will also help to keep out the pesky Plymouth and Cornwall rats. Carry out an external inspection of your property and check gaps around pipes, windows, doors and look for potential entry points for small furry creatures. Don’t be fooled – rats and mice can adapt themselves to fit through the tiniest spaces.

Clear out the clutter
That pile of clutter in the corner of the garden, the stack of old books and papers and boxes ibn the garage or shed… all of them are a perfect hiding place for rats and mice. It’s time to declutter. Have a look through the cupboard under the stairs, give it a clean out, make sure your basement isn’t full of junk. All of these dark, warm places make the ideal habitat for rodents.

Check your roof space
When was the last time you went up into the attic or roof space of your Plymouth or Cornwall home? Some of you may be thinking ‘out of sight, out of mind’ but not only do you need to check the insulation for any signs of damage and inspect the roof for damp or condensation, it is also a good idea to check for signs of unwanted visitors. If you are going to get rats then the roof space is another place they will head for. As they can cause extensive damage to electrical cables, beams, pipes etc. it is best to take the various preventative measures.
